I have lived in the DC area for 14 years, you'd think I'd be used to the summer swamp weather by now. But no. My Maine blood cannot hack it and all I want to do in the summer is escape. Or get up really early to spend the dawn hours enjoying the great outdoors before it becomes unbearable. Luckily, I have clients who understand this and are up for early weekend wake up calls.
I met Ziggy, Penny and their parents, Erynn and Matt, at Green Springs Gardens in Alexandria on a particularly warm day this July. You may recognize Ziggy from her feature in my ongoing Office Dogs of Capitol Hill project. She has a new sister who joins her at the office now and as far as I can tell, life is good. Especially when fetch happens.
We had the place mostly to ourselves so the girls got to play out on the lawn. Once they tired each other out a bit I focused on capturing sweet moments with Erynn and Matt, who were natural models. We wrapped up before the heat of the day took over and were home in time to enjoy a late breakfast. Life certainly is good.
