Merit on the Mall...
It was a hot & humid day in the middle of high tourist season on the National Mall. Summer construction projects were in full force and cleanup was still in progress from the 4th of July celebrations. Such is life in our Nation's Capitol but Merit & Co were up for the challenge. Permit in hand, we got busy with our session.
Merit played in front of the Washington Monument, found a dead fish along the Tidal Basin, sit/stayed/laid down on the stairs of the Jefferson and finished up at the Lincoln. She never seemed to tire, modeling must be her calling.
When we rounded the corner of the Lincoln to head down to the reflecting pool for the final epic shot, it was completely fenced off. GRRR…DC! As I worked on a Plan B while the sun said goodnight, Naila (Merit's mom) spotted a hole in the fence, halfway down. Not perfect but we will make it work. And we did. BTW, thanks to whoever threw that section of the fence into the pool - normally I don't encourage or condone that behavior but this one time — thank you. ;)
Every photo session has its challenges. Part of the reason I love this chaotic world of pet photography is the need to always solve new challenges on the spot. Walking home from this session with the lights of the DC monuments illuminating our path, a happy dog at our feet and a camera full of memories – that fills me up.
